Embellished Sketches: My sketchbooks were, for years, where I worked out elements for comic strips and animations. More recently they have become an integral part of my creative process for paintings and stand-alone drawings. Originally I planned to trim these drawings with finishing touches, but only the first five received this treatment.
These drawings are on Strathmore’s 400 series paper, mostly. My use of this paper is accidental and stems from teaching a cartooning class for kids in the early 2000s. Some students never completed the course, so I was left with the remainder of their unused drawing tablets. The natural cream color of the paper is perserved in some examples.
YouTube Channel Content and Sketchbooks: My YouTube Channel dominates my life as a creator as of June 2023. And because my sketchbooks document not only ideas for paintings and finished drawings, but also sketches made for time-lapse photography and animations, there is little time left for an idle, self-indulgent doodle. The situation is evolving, so any plans I may have for a set of drawings can be overturned by week’s end.
None of these sketches have titles, except for Wedges Issue, which is the second image on the sixth row. Since summer 2025, I have been sketching on Canson XL Pen and Ink paper. It is a thin unexceptional paper, better suited for sketching than finished drawings, which is why I put Wedges Issue on this page and not with my other drawings.
The next page explores in detail the development of an animation from sketches circa 2018.
