Icarus Transfigured | The Ghost in the Machine | Chapter 12: In this episode, Aiden seeks to divert his mind from his trouble by visiting the campus library to research his haunted house’s architect. He is the only patron in the cavernous building, and soon discovers that he is being followed.
Icarus Transfigured | The Incorporeal Hitchhiker | Chapter 13 and 14: After police invade his house, and put him under suspicion of murder, Aiden flees to Chicago to visit and consult with his lawyer friend.
The shadowy figure that followed him through the cavernous library at Peabody Hall has seemingly hitched a ride, and lurks first in the dark countryside, and then the corridors of his friend’s creepy old hotel.
Aiden’s emerging relationship with Emma comes up in discussion, first with his friend, and later with a mysterious woman who turns up at his bedside. Her advice proves more useful to the socially impaired man.
Icarus Transfigured | Chapters 12 and 13 Letters: Schopenhauer said we are the thing-in-itself but for the concept of time. By removing time, Omar begins to create a new map of Heaven.
These letters correspond to Aiden’s impromptu midnight roadtrip to Chicago in Chapters 13 and 14 of Icarus Transfigured. The ghosts he meets along the way are signposts, but what lies beyond them?
Icarus Transfigured | Chapters 15 and 16: Aiden feels emboldened by his attraction for Emma. They travel to Nadir Mound for an afternoon adventure together, but get more than they bargained for. Aiden fears his nightmares are now following him into full daylight.
Icarus Transfigured | Chapters 14 Letter Introduction: In this introduction, Aiden describes the unreality of childhood, and how, in hindsight, it does not resemble reality at all. This description harkens back to Aiden and Omar’s strange conversation in Chapter Two.
Entries from Aiden’s journal begin several chapters in Icarus Transfigured, and each provides background on the peculiar perspective of an autistic life.
